Eastwood Families and friends,
In the past few weeks, we have been communicating with Little League International (LLI) and the District Administration for Michigan Little League District 2 (comprising of 12 Kalamazoo area leagues) as well as the other leagues in D2 directly. Little League International has recently canceled state and national all-star tournaments for the 2020 season and has left the decision on whether to have a 2020 regular season up to the local leagues. Several of the Leagues in D2 have already canceled, and I suspect that most, if not all, will do so eventually. The Governor recently extended the stay at home restriction through May 28th and it is likely there will be an additional extension(s), and beyond that social distancing restrictions. In light of these uncertainties and, of course, safety concerns for our Little League families, the Board made the very difficult decision in a virtual meeting this morning to cancel the 2020 season of Eastwood Little League.
The Board is committed to providing baseball and softball clinics and other opportunities that may present itself in the upcoming months once restrictions are lifted and this can be done safely. If the Board is able to operate clinics and offer other opportunities for the players, an email will be sent regarding dates, times, and the age level.
Financially, this decision has the potential to be devastating to a league of our size. In order to refund each and every family, it will cost our league over $8,800. Our current bank account balances total a little over $13,000.
As a board, we are asking our families to consider donating all or part of their current paid registration fees to the league to help offset the ongoing costs for the league. Electricity bills and the costs of maintaining and upkeep of the complex do not stop. We have decided to attempt to maintain the facilities using only volunteers to lower costs, so there are no paid employees this year.
Families who donate their fees will not have to pay any fees for any or all of the clinics and activities that we may offer later in the summer.
Eastwood Little League is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and your donation is tax-deductible.
For families that are unable or unwilling to donate all or part of their fees, refunds will be issued by check. The fees charged by the company that runs and maintains our registration website range from $3 to $5 per refunded transaction and would cost Eastwood a considerable extra amount.
We are asking that those who require a refund send an email to email@example.com. Please state if you are requesting a full refund, or are willing to donate all or part of your 2020 fees. Only refunds requested through EMAIL will be considered. This is in an attempt to ensure that no request gets lost or is not seen if done via Facebook, Facebook messenger or text message. For refund requests to be honored, all requests need to be made on or before May 31, 2020.
We will distribute requested checks in a drive-through, socially distanced manner in the little league parking lot after we have processed all the requests. This is in an attempt to save postage costs. Please remember that Eastwood Little League is completely volunteer-run, and this will take some time to process. The date for pick up of checks will be announced via email, our Facebook page and Twitter accounts, and will be sometime in June.
The Board understands that these times have been very tough on families all around our area. We really spent a lot of time trying to decide what was the best course for our league and we are very sad that we won’t be able to see our Eastwood families up at the fields any time soon.
